Buru SFTP Server features

File Server

Multiprotocol file server

Buru SFTP Server is a multiprotocol file server that makes it easy to share files using SFTP, FTP and SCP protocols.

Physical storage

Buru supports the following storage options:

  • Local folders
    Directories on the same server.
  • Windows network shares
Directories on different servers accessible by SMB protocol.

Windows or Active Directory Impersonation PROedition

Optionally, you can associate a Buru user account with a Windows or AD account. Such users can access their files using their own Windows identity – using impersonated access.

Virtual folders

Virtual directories allow you to create any directory structure you want, so you are not limited by what your underlying storage looks like. Virtual directories can be mounted in read-write or read-only mode.

Access rights

You can manage file system access rights for internal users by configuring access rights to virtual directories. Windows access control lists (ACLs) for users associated with Windows accounts are also respected and can be used to further fine-tune access permissions.

Auditing and access log

Every access to the server files can be optionally logged. For details, see Administration section. Logs can be viewed online using the Web administrator interface.

Secure file transfer

Immutability and security of all transmitted data is ensured by security mechanisms built into the SSH and TLS protocols based on secure cryptographic standards such as RSA, ECDSA, AES, or SHA-2. To check the integrity of specific files, the server supports hash-based verification of the files using the 'check-file' SFTP extension.

Transfer compression

To speed up transfers and save bandwidth, the server supports compression of transferred files, especially ZLIB for SFTP/SSH.

Large file support

Buru SFTP Server supports very large files – the theoretical maximum file size supported by the SFTP protocol is 2^63 bytes, which is 9,223,372 TB. However, in practice, the maximum file size is limited by the underlying filesystem. For example, the largest file size supported by Windows NTFS file system is 256 TB.
